Meet the Acupuncturist
Darlene has over 30 years of experience in the natural healing therapies. Her own trauma related symptoms such as migraines, depression and arthritis inspired her to learn TCM acupuncture and herbs, diet/superfoods, Australian Bush Flowers, and New Zealand homeobotanicals. She is also trained in mind/body counselling such as Process Oriented Psychology and continues to use and recommend various forms of Energy Psychology such as breath work, kinesiology and Network Spinal Adjustment.

Acupuncture is a very gentle modality that can address all types of pain as well as many internal conditions. It does this by improving blood flow though the body and the internal organs. According to The Acupuncture Evidence Report (Jantz & McDonald, 2017) acupuncture helps to reduce stress, induce relaxation and has been shown to be effective for 8 conditions and potentially effective for 38 other conditions.*

What to Expect
Very fine disposable needles are inserted into various acupuncture points. The treatment is usually painless and it is not uncommon for clients to fall asleep after the pins have been put in. Other techniques such as facilitated stretching, moxa, cupping and massage may be incorporated into the treatment depending on your condition.
HOW MANY TREATMENTS WILL I NEED?
This is based on how long you have had a condition and whether it is musculoskeletal, an acute disease or due to weak and/or stressed organ function. As a general rule: for acute conditions (less than 3 weeks) allow 2 treatments per week for 2 weeks ,then 1 treatment per week up to a total of 6-10 treatments. Chronic conditions (those having lasted longer than 3 weeks) may need ongoing weekly and then fortnightly treatments, allowing one month of treatment for every year you have had a condition although the body may heal much faster. Your practitioner will put together a treatment plan and discuss this with you.
PREVENTION AND LIFESTYLE
Once you are better it is important to keep on top of your health as it is always easier to prevent dis-ease before it starts. Our wellness program may include recommending a good multi-vitamin supplement, a daily green superfood, and keeping our preventative cold 'n flu products on hand such as Golden Throat Lozenges, Nim Jiom cough syrup and herbal immune formulas. Many clients find that a monthly treatment helps them stay relaxed and energised by sleeping well and digesting food properly. By keeping muscles relaxed and well nourished one may prevent the crippling pain of sciatica from ever developing.
Various lifestyle changes in diet or recreational relaxation can help speed up your recovery resulting in less treatments. For example, a chronic stress induced headache will obviously improve faster if the stressor is either removed or managed properly, so be sure to discuss with your practitioner what you can be doing at home to help.

Our practitioners treat holistically which means we like to address the cause of conditions and not just mask symptoms. We like to prevent symptoms from coming back, so often this means using herbs or other natural remedies to address the underlying internal imbalances. An example of this may be muscle pain where improving blood flow can prevent tightness and pain. Also there could be stagnation in the body that prevents nourishment to the organs. Various remedies may correct these internal imbalances thus easing muscle pain and improving organ function.
